Are you currently dreaming of what your ideal vacation will look like? Getting ready for your trip may seem like a lot of work, but you can have fun as well. Plus, planning ahead can make the trip more enjoyable.

If you haven’t settled on a location yet, you can request visitors’ guides (in print or digital format) from visitors’ centers across the nation. It’s a great way to check out the local attractions from afar and see what you get the most excited about. Once you’ve chosen a location, you can dig deeper into the area and make a list of a few things you’d like to do while you’re there. We’re not saying make a whole itinerary because you will probably want some downtime, but just make note of a few things you’d like to do and places you’d like to visit. This can give your vacation a balance between complete relaxation and exploring the local area.

If there are particular places you want to see, make sure to check if they have certain days and hours they’re open. Some activities may allow you to pre-buy tickets, which can be to your advantage depending on the activity.

When it comes to packing, don’t forget anything that you might need for a special activity or trip. For example, if you’re planning to go snorkeling, pack your snorkeling gear. It can be easy to forget these extras when you’re concerned about packing enough shorts, shirts, and toiletries.

One of the ways to help you avoid forgetting anything is to create a list. Type up a packing list of everything you’ll need. Include things like your phone charging cord, which can be easy to forget. There may also be last-minute things you need to pack. Say you prefer your pillow to any others, but you can’t pack that till the day of, make sure that’s on your reminder list. Another thing you may want to include on this reminder list is anything you may need for where you’re staying. For example, some rentals may require that you bring your own sheets and towels. If so, you’ll want to make sure those necessities are packed and ready to go.

Before heading out, make sure to check over your list to ensure you’ve included anything you were afraid of forgetting. You’ll also want to double-check your toiletries bag because it’s easy to forget essentials like soap, shampoo, or toothpaste.

Traveling takes planning and time, but thankfully that time can make your experience more successful. You’ll feel more prepared and can spend less time stressing about the little things.
